Mentors In The Spotlight

Kay and Rob have been mentors to Soren now for four and a half years.  We hope you enjoy reading about their strong relationship.

What motivated you to get involved with the program?

We couldn’t have children of our own but had a lot of love and time to offer so we decided to find an organisation where we could be of most benefit to a child in some way.

What do you find most rewarding about your involvement with the program?

We have lots of fun, laughter and learning in our home – it is so rewarding for us and Soren.

Have you seen any changes in Soren since the mentoring relationship started?

We have seen this little guy grow up physically, start school, grow in self confidence, and he has a huge curiosity about the world and is so quick to learn.

Tell us a little about your relationship with Soren

Soren enjoys so many activities with us – he loves sharing Uncle Rob’s model train hobby, being in the workshop, playing computer games , pillow fights, bike riding, swimming and playgrounds. With Aunty Kay he cooks, does craft and science experiments. It’s a full life!

What do you do for a living?

Uncle Rob is a Traffic Controller and Aunty Kay is a Bus driver.

Would you encourage others to become involved with Aunties and Uncles?

We would definitely encourage others to join. It is so rewarding to see the child blossom and grow, and he’s brought an added dimension into our home and lives.

Recently Soren asked his uncle if they could build a billycart, so they both worked together to build a traditional one from a kit.

Aunty Kay then entered Soren into the local billycart races and despite being nervous before the race, Soren came in well ahead of the pack in  2nd place  –  Needless to say Aunty Kay and Uncle Rob were extremely proud.

Well done Soren!!
